Farm house

The Kistarcsa Cultural Association organized the second evening connected to the ENSURE project.

The topic was: Farm houses’ world.

The lecturer was a teacher from agricultural university, who spent his child time in a farm house and now he teaches the subject about farms.

These houses are not in a village, but stand as a stand alone building. The life is not easy for the family, which is living there. For example children have to walk some miles to the school. But in other side there are very positive possibilities. The neighborhood is quiet. Residents here are not disturbed by neighbors. There is no need to adapt to the official regulations of a settlement. They can shape their own life themselves. The neighbors are living a little further away, but they have a good relationship with them. They are in need of each other to help one another, so a good community life is created.

In socialism the basis of the farms were nationalized too. Inhabitants' cultivated land and animals of the farms had to be given to the community. The families were very impoverished. Many of them moved to the city and started a new life. In Hungary the number of farm house residents' decreased from 1 million to 200 thousand. A large number of these houses have been destroyed.

This was the Hungarian situation. Of course in western countries there was no difficult life for farm houses. But not all Eastern countries were so rough about the state. For example, in Poland, many people have kept their property.

The European Union supports the rural people in the frame of farm program, and with grant for young farmers.

In Hungary there are houses that are just ruins. There are other houses where are living very old people. For them there is a job of guardian, who helps their life – shopping, work around the house. There are families who grew up there. And there are some houses where people moved from towns.

The support of the European Union is very important to re-populate the farms. The most of needs are: electricity, passable road for car, water – not only for drinking but for irrigation too, community building for meetings, public security.

There are some pictures which were made by our lecturer when he took his students from university for visiting farm houses and making interviews with people who are living there. The age of these residents is different. There are very old women and men who are living alone. And there are young people, most of them grown up in town, but they decided to change their life so they moved to live in a farm house.

Wineries

The Kistarcsa Cultural Association organized an evening connected to the ENSURE project.
The topic was: The role of a small winery in the European Union.
The lecturer was a winemaker and I coordinated the workshop.
The beginning of the lecture was generally about the wine and later we went to the European
aspects.
Main themes of the lecture: The short history of winemaking. The role of wine in gastronomy. Pairing
of meals and wines. World famous wines. The reputation of Hungarian wines abroad. Wine-growing
areas in Hungary. The Matra wine region. The characteristics of wine sales. Possibilities of a family
winery in the European Union. The place of Hungarian wine on the world market.
The lectures told us about his firm. When he was child their parents had vineyards, but disappeared
when the farm cooperatives evolved. He became a mechanical engineer, but as hobby he cultivated
some grapes. So he have not missed his practice in this field. After the change of regime, he started
the winery. His son is working with him, and his grandson has now graduated winemaker degree.
After the lecture was held a workshop. We talked about possibility of European market. The problem
in Hungary is, that the tradition was broken in the time of socialism. Winemakers try to find out
which wine is the best on their territory. Now they make too much kinds. This method is not good. It
would be better if they make only 2-3 kinds of wine. In this case will be easier to remember their
names.
The European Union adequately supports family wineries and multinational companies are not a
problem for the market. This family company sales their wine in Hungary, in Europe and in the
United States.
In the audience there were not much people, but who came was very interested in topic. Between
them were some amateur winemakers, who had practical questions. During the talking time
participants learned a lot from the lecturer and from each other.

Ismertető

A Kistarcsai Kulturális Egyesület széles nemzetközi kapcsolatokkal rendelkezik.
